Beginning of the 90s . One Friday, at a vague time at night, after a rehersal with our group, some components of the group Rondalla Peña Fragatina were talking around a table thinking about the exciting idea of organizing a folk dancing event in our town that would allow everybody to enjoy traditional folklore.

A mixture of worry and energy was felt in front of a project to promote the organization of a folklore festival. Our point of reference was a parade and a few performances that were done at the beginning of the 80s during the annual Fraga`s celebration. There were lots of meetings, analyzing advantages and problems, desires, thousands of ideas flowing...

The possibility of bringing to the public something done some years ago a little bit closer was encouraging even more our hopes to see it made real.

February, 1993. While those were only ideas and projects, a fatal accident left us without Julián, our dancing director and a very active member of our group. Everything seemed to have another colour and another meaning, but what happened was actually enough motivition to continue with the initial idea. That was just the push needed by his colleagues to make that festival true.

July, 1993. Some of those who continued with the idea decided to take it a little bit further and took the project to our Association, Peña Fragatina, and also to Fraga´s Town Council. They all showed big interest in the activity and offered us a lot of support. We had more than one year ahead to organize the festival.

September, 1994 . It was time to present the Festival and all its different activities. Its celebration was among the most important decisions to be made, and we all agreed that would be every two years, the even years. Another important point was also his name, which we decided was going to be Julián's name and surnames, not as a tribute, but as an important reference of identity of his person inside the folklore world.

October, 1994 . The biggest folklore show was born in Fraga, the “Julian Arellano Mesalles Folkore Festival”.
